TVB welcomes HK Customs’ cracking down on online piracy activities
(4 October 2016) Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department took action on 3 October cracking down on a suspected piracy case involving the distribution of TVB programmes online. Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) welcomes Hong Kong Custom’s action in strengthening law enforcement and combating online piracy.
“TVB dramas have been popular at home and abroad. They have often been the targets for pirated activities. Online piracy is theft. Infringers are stealing the interests of copyright owners and efforts and creativity of producers. We expect the government to take effective steps to combat illegal websites and rampant online piracy through infringing set-top boxes and streaming. We hope the Legislative Council will re-examine the Copyright (Amendment) Bill in the new term and introduce legislation as soon as possible to protect the rights and interests of the film and television industry as well as creators,” a TVB spokesman said.
