TVB disagrees with CA decisions

(22 November 2016) Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) disagrees with the findings of the Communications Authority (CA) that the TV programmes “My Love, myTV SUPER”  broadcast on 17 April; “myTV SUPER All Star Summer” on 17 July; and “Scoop” on 19 April and 18 May this year were in breach of TV Programme Code and TV Advertising Code (the Codes).

A TVB spokesman said, “The CA’s findings are unreasonable and erroneous. We have on numerous occasions raised complaints in relation to CA decisions which have been inconsistent and arbitrary. The CA has issued no guidelines on the Codes. The lack of certainty and constancy in its interpretation of the Codes makes it difficult for licensees to observe and abide by the Codes when running their daily operations.”

“We have filed earlier an application for leave to apply for judicial review of the CA’s decision regarding another programme “TV Awards Presentation 2015” which is still pending. We will seek legal advice with a view to applying for JR to challenge the CA decisions on these as well.”
