TVB appoints new chairman

Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) today announced that Dr Norman Leung Nai Pang, Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors (Board) and Chairman of the Executive Committee, will retire with effect from 1 January 2015. Dr Charles Chan Kwok Keung, a shareholder and a non-executive director of TVB, has been appointed as Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee Chairman with effect from the same day.
Announcing the appointments, the Board paid tribute to Dr Norman Leung for his outstanding contributions to TVB in the past 11 years. Dr Leung, aged 74, was appointed a director of the company and Executive Deputy Chairman in September 2003. He succeeded Sir Run Run Shaw as Executive Chairman of the Board on 1 January 2012.
Under Dr Leung’s able leadership, the company has grown from strength to strength. The Board would like to express its gratitude and immense appreciation to Dr Leung for his wise counsel and guidance over the years.
Dr Leung said, “It has been my privilege to be at the helm of TVB, a position charged with great responsibilities towards our audience, employees, shareholders and the society at large.
“We are most grateful to the late Sir Run Run Shaw for his vision, wisdom and guidance during his tenure as our Chairman for over 30 years. When I took over from Sir Run Run in 2012, I knew his achievement would be a hard act to follow.
“Those were challenging, yet memorable 11 years. I would like to thank my fellow directors, management, staff and artistes for their unfailing support to me.”
Dr Charles Chan, aged 59, was appointed a non-executive director of TVB in April 2011 and has been a member of the Executive Committee since March 2012. He has over 30 years of experience in international corporate management and strategic investments.
Dr Chan said he was honoured to be appointed Chairman and he looked forward to working with the Board to deliver the development strategy for TVB.
The Board also announced the appointment of Mr Cheong Shin Keong, General Manager, as an Executive Director and a member of the Executive Committee with effect from 1 January 2015.
At the same time, Mr Mark Lee Po On, Group General Manager, will be re-titled as Group Chief Executive Officer to better reflect his overall responsibilities in the Group. Mr Lee is currently an Executive Director of the company and a member of the Executive Committee.
